Restaurant Food Safety Procedures: The Essential Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Tasks
A structured reference poster covering every food safety procedure your restaurant needs. Built around SFBB and HACCP requirements for UK food businesses.
Why written procedures matter for your food hygiene rating
Under Article 5 of Regulation (EC) 852/2004, every food business must have documented food safety procedures based on HACCP principles. An EHO inspection will check not just that you have procedures, but that your team follows them consistently and can demonstrate them on the spot. Businesses without documented procedures routinely score 2 or below on their food hygiene rating.
Counter-intuitively, the businesses that fail inspections are not the ones with no procedures at all — they are the ones with procedures on paper that nobody follows. An outdated ring binder is worse than nothing because it demonstrates a knowing failure to comply.
Implementing these procedures in your restaurant kitchen
Print this poster and display it in your kitchen as a visible reminder of the core food safety rhythm. Use it during team briefings to reinforce which tasks happen when. The daily checks — fridge temperatures, hand washing, cleaning schedules — should become as automatic as turning on the extraction fans.
Digital SFBB keeps procedures alive: assign tasks to specific team members with deadlines and reminders, track completion in real time, and give your EHO a dashboard view of your food safety management system rather than a dusty folder.
